Allakhazam’s class guide sums the wizard up as a seeker of raw magical power with the best burst damage of any class, potent stuns, portal spells, and some of the best soloing at higher levels.

What a wizard does

Wizards spend their lives learning the powers of fire, ice and magic, channeling that knowledge into ever more destructive spells. They wear cloth and wield blunt weapons and daggers.

The official text calls them the most single-minded casters: most of their spells exist to deal massive damage as fast as possible. In their search for power they also perfected teleportation, carrying themselves and their allies instantly to the far corners of Norrath and beyond.

They trade variety for the greatest magical damage in the game. They can adventure solo or in groups, and the official text recommends them to players “who live to blow things up.”

The epic: Staff of the Four

Epic quests came to EverQuest in September 2000, shortly after The Ruins of Kunark. They were modelled on the paladin’s Fiery Avenger quest: long, multi-step journeys through the highest-level dungeons, usually needing groups to kill powerful creatures. Each ended in a unique weapon with its own model and particle effects. The wizard’s reward was the Staff of the Four, with the effect Barrier of Force.

Who could be one

In the classic era recreated by Project 1999, the wizard epic could be used by Human, Erudite, High Elf, Dark Elf, Gnome. The Iksar appear there because they joined with The Ruins of Kunark.

Titles

After level 50, each class earns titles that show in /who. A wizard became a Channeler at 51, a Evoker at 55 and a Sorcerer at 60.

Playing a wizard today

The class is still in the game on Daybreak’s live and time-locked progression servers. Project 1999 recreates the Classic, Kunark and Velious eras, so it has the original fourteen classes. See EverQuest Today for where the game stands now.
