Xegony, Queen of Air

If you ever chased an aviak along the coast of Antonica, you were hunting the descendants of Xegony’s first favourites.

Her place in creation

When the Nameless made four elemental powers, the creation tale From the Library of Norrath relates, the fourth was Xegony, and her task was to draw away the material in between and set each thing in its place. She made her portion of chaos into Air, using it to blow the chaos away and to cushion each world from the harshness of the cold cosmos. With Fennin Ro, Tarew Marr and the Rathe she later joined in a creation of their own, and the four elemental gods made Quarm.

The Queen of Air

She rules the Plane of Air, a young elven maiden with angel-like wings. Of all the elemental powers she is the most delicate and benevolent, neutral good, and the most revered for it. She is also an enigma, for she has never turned her attention to the world below, keeping it on the elemental powers instead.

First Flight

Once, at least, she did look down. The aviak tale First Flight says the creatures that walked on two legs or four displeased her, so ungainly were they. So Xegony made a beautiful winged race, and they built their nests in the choicest places on Norrath, because they were her chosen.

Over time they began to whisper beak to beak that their wings proved them better than the wretches who had to walk everywhere, and they looked down on the other races, in every sense. The aviaks tell it as the story of their fall from grace.

Eryslai, the Kingdom of Wind

Her realm floats atop the material and astral worlds on clouds of vapour. Within it lies Eryslai, the Kingdom of Wind, a scatter of floating, majestic islands she watches over in peace. Her favoured creation there is Quillmane, a unique pegasus; claims that he has sired lesser pegasi with ordinary horses remain unconfirmed rumour.

The Quintessence

With Tarew Marr and the Rathe Council she once combined the essence of their beings to make an object of infinite power, the Quintessence of the Elements, as the in-game book ZSQuint tells it. Realising how dangerous its wielder would be, they locked it away in the Rathe’s vault.

The Plane of Time

When the gods gathered over Zebuxoruk in the Plane of Time, it was Xegony who spoke for the elemental powers: “The mortals possess a direct tie to Zebuxoruk. If his stasis is finished their link will dwindle as well as their powers and knowledge.”

How much is known

Little more survives. Only about fourteen texts mention her, against hundreds for gods like Innoruuk, and she has no temple or player faith on Norrath in the classic game. That silence fits a goddess who never turned her attention to the world below, and this page keeps to what those few texts tell.

Where the sources disagree

Agnarr the Storm Lord, the Plane of Air’s great guardian in Planes of Power, has his own page.
